Bee Happy Handmade Card

 

This handmade card features the retiring digital stamp "Baby Fairy Bee" designed by Maurie J. Manning of Mo's Digital Pencil.

I colored the image with Copic Sketch markers and used a stencil to make the honeycomb pattern in the background.

The die-cut sentiment is from the "Bee Happy" Thinlits dies by Sizzix. The small bee die-cuts are from the "Spring Things" Thinlits dies by Sizzix.

I embellished the card with two small paper flowers with faux pearl centers.

I Like You (A LOT) Handmade Card

I like you (A LOT)

The girl on the front of this card reminds me of my youngest granddaughter, Khloe. This is a card that could be used for special occasions or just to let a special person know that you care.

 This handmade card measures 5" by 6.5".

I used the digital image/sentiment "I Like You" designed by Maurie J. Manning of Mo's Digital Pencil. This image was a pre-release freebie to Ms. Manning's Patreon supporters in January, 2021.

I printed the image on white cardstock and colored it with Copic Sketch markers. I mounted the image on black cardstock. The background paper is a Gelli print that I made with Distress Oxide inks and a stencil.

I embellished the card with two hearts and a butterfly die cut.

Heaven's Dew and Earth's Richness

I will use this card as a birthday card. 

The base of the card is a blank Strathmore card that measures 5" by 7".

I chose the digital stamp/sentiment "Bounty" from Mo's Digital Pencil to feature on the front of this card. I used Canva to size and merge the image and sentiment. The hill is an element that Maurie Manning offered her Patreon supporters. I printed the image on white cardstock with my HP Photo Printer and Instant Ink. I hand-colored the image with Copic Sketch markers and Winsor & Newton Promarkers/Brush Markers. I love to mix and match my alcohol markers. I cut/embossed the image with a Spellbinders die in my die cutting machine. I mounted the image on a piece of back cardstock.

The background is a Yellow Dandelion paper. This paper was offered to Maurie Manning's Patreon supporters. I love to print digital papers on my home printer and I never run out of ink.

I embellished the card with some brown ribbon with white stitches (Stampin' Up). I then used the Spellbinder's Floral Corner 2 die to make the yellow embellishments around the corners of the image. I added three bright yellow paper flowers from my stash. 

I matted the image on a piece of dark brown cardstock and then attached it to the white Strathmore card.

Handmade Birthday Girl Card

July is a wonderful time to celebrate a birthday! I made this card and it has already been delivered to a special birthday girl.

I chose the digital stamp/sentiment "Birthday Girl" from Mo's Digital Pencil to feature on this card.

I printed the image and sentiment on white cardstock using my HP Photo Printer and Instant Ink.

I hand-colored the image with Copic Sketch markers and Winsor & Newton Promarkers/Brush markers. I love to mix and match my alcohol markers. I used a gold gel pen to color the crown and fill in the center of the flowers.

I cut out the image using a rectangular die with my die cutting machine. I framed the image with a piece of black cardstock. I used a die-cut corner embellishment in the lower right corner of the image.

I chose Glam Glitter Polka (The Paper Studio) for the background paper. I was very happy to find a pack of this paper on clearance at Hobby Lobby. The paper is very glittery but has a smooth surface, so it is easy to glue other paper to it.

I made a strip of scalloped white cardstock and put a strip of black cardstock down the center. I attached this to the center of the card. I finished the card with a colorful stitched banner from my stash.

Handmade Dandelions Birthday Card

I made this card featuring a sweet little girl holding a bouquet of dandelions. 

In the words of A.A. Milne..."Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them."

The base of this card is a blank Strathmore card that measures 5" by 7".

I chose the digital stamp "Dandelions!" to feature on this card. This image was designed by Maurie Manning and was pre-released to the members of her Patreon supporters. It will soon be available in her online store - Mo's Digital Pencil.

I printed the image on white cardstock with my HP Photo Printer and Instant Ink. I hand-colored the image with Copic Sketch markers and Winsor & Newton Promarkers/Brush markers. I love to mix and match my alcohol markers.

I used a pierced circle die to cut out the image with my die cutting machine. I mounted the image on a black scalloped circle die cut. I used the die "Fence Picket & Gate by Stu Kilgour" (Thick Cuts) by Ellison Design for the fence along the bottom of the card.

The background paper is Dandelion Digital Paper by Maurie Manning. This paper was offered to her Patreon supporters.

I added a strip of scalloped cardstock along the top of the card that matches the fence. I attached the distressed sentiment "Happy Birthday" and some washi tape to the top of the card.

Love Endures Sympathy Card

I made this sympathy card for a friend who lost a beloved family member.
I truly believe that love never dies...it endures forever.

This is how I made the card;
I started with a blank kraft cardstock card that measures 5" by 6.5".

The background paper is from the Tim Holtz Wallflower Paper Stash.

I used the digital stamp "Flower Jar" from Mo's Digital Pencil. I printed the image on white cardstock and colored it with Copic Sketch Markers and Promarkers. I cut it out and chomped the corners with a Crop-a-Dile Corner Chomper (Clearance item from Hobby Lobby). I used a Spellbinders die to cut the black frame and used double-sided tape to attach the image to the frame.
I chose the sentiment "Love Endures" from the Digital Phrase Collage Sheet #9
from Lisa's Altered Art on Etsy. I die cut the black frame and attached the sentiment to the frame with glue dots.

I finished the card by tying a piece of twine around the card and making a bow.

Feed the Soul Handmade Card

"Bread feeds the body, but flowers feed the soul."

I chose this "Feed the Soul" digital stamp for my Mother's Day cards this year.

This is how I made the card:

Card base: A blank kraft card that measures 5" by 6.5".

Digital stamp: "Feed the Soul" from Mo's Digital Pencil Shop.

I colored the digital image with Copic Sketch markers. I trimmed the image and mounted it on a piece of black cardstock.

The background patterned paper is from the Flower Digital Paper pack from Prettygrafikdesign on Etsy. I printed the paper on my HP Envy Photo printer using the HP Instant Ink program. The instant ink program is great for crafters. The printer automatically orders new cartridges when you are running low on ink. 

I used a Spellbinders die to cut the floral embellishment. I used a dot of Ranger's Enamel Accents for the center of the flower.

Handmade Easter Cards #NYPLRemix

 The New York Public Library Digital Collections feature prints, photographs, maps, manuscripts, streaming video and more. Many of the items are in the public domain and are free to use in art and crafts projects. I chose this 1895 menu cover from the Windsor Hotel for my Easter cards this year.

I cropped the image with PicMonkey photo editing software. I enhanced the colors and added the text "Happy Easter" to the print. I sized the image to print at 5" by 7". I then printed it on white cardstock and attached it to the front of a blank card.

I printed the image on a piece of brown kraft cardstock and used a rubber stamp to print the sentiment "Happy Easter" on the front. 

I used a HP Envy Photo 7800 Printer to print the images. I subscribe to the HP Instant Ink program so I can print up to 300 pages a month for $9.99 each month. This program works great for printing art and crafts projects.

Handmade Anniversary Card with Tim Holtz Paper Dolls

I made this handmade anniversary card featuring Tim Holtz Paper Dolls.

The base is a blank kraft card that measures 5" by 6 1/2". 

I used double-sided patterned paper from the Tim Holtz Wallflower paper pad.

I die-cut the word "Love" and the curvy base for the paper dolls from the reverse side of the floral patterned paper.

I chose a vintage bride and groom from the Idea-ology 107 piece Tim Holtz Paper Dolls pack. 

I used the sentiment "Happy Together" from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Quotations Metallic Stickers pack. I placed the sticker on top of the "Love" die-cut for some added dimension.

I finished the card with a piece of aqua linen yarn.

Love You Daddy Father's Day Card

Father's Day is this Sunday and I made this card to honor an awesome Dad in our family.

These are the materials I used to make this card:

The base is a blank 5" by 7" kraft greeting card.

I used a piece of cardstock from the Tim Holtz "Crowded Attic" Idea-ology Paper Stash Pad. This paper is a reproduction of an antique French catalog page. I used a paper punch to make the lower edge look like it was removed from a spiral notebook.

I used the digital stamp "Love You Daddy" from Mo's Digital Pencil. I printed the image on white cardstock and colored it with Copic sketch markers. I cut/embossed the image with a Spellbinders die.

I used letter stickers from my stash to write the word "Daddy" across the top of the card. I put a small brad (brushed gold finish) at the top of each sticker.

I finished the card by tying a piece of variegated seam binding on the side of the card.

Flower Jar Easter Card

Happy Spring!

Easter will be here soon and I have been making handmade cards to send my friends in the Hand to Heart Ministry at church.

I will enter this card in Mo's Challenge #261 - Anything Goes.

These are the supplies I used to make this card:

1. A blank 5" by 7" kraft greeting card.
2. Background cardstock "Collage Art Stack" from DCWV. 
3. Digital stamp "Flower Jar" from Mo's Digital Pencil. I colored the flowers with Prismacolor pencils and a blending pen. I colored the water and table with Copic sketch markers. I cut out the image with a Spellbinders die.
4. I used my Dymo label maker to make the "Easter Blessings" sentiment at the top of the card.
5. I embellished the card with some faux pearl flowers and a distressed linen ribbon.

Mo's Lovely Layers Challenge

I made this birthday card to enter in Mo's Challenge #150 ~ Lovely Layers w/Mo Image."

This is how I made the card;

(1.) I started with a blank card that measures 4" by 5 1/2".

(2.) I layered two pieces of colorful patterned paper on the card.

(3.) I used a Spellbinders Nestabilities die to cut a scalloped circle from pink cardstock.

(4.) I used the digital image "Wonderful Day" from Mo's Digital Pencil Shop. I colored the image with Copic sketch markers and distressed the edges with Tim Holtz distress ink.

(5.) I glued the image to the scalloped circle and attached it to the card with small foam squares.

Collage Greeting Cards From Old Book Pages

I have been thinking about different ways to recycle old books that are tattered and torn. Many of these are no longer useful as reading copies.
I made this collage greeting card this morning using a page from "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. This page was printed in the early 1900s and has a nice aged color.

I like to find pages that have inspiring quotations on them that the recipient of the card will enjoy. The chapter title of this page is "Artistic Attempts". I thought that was very appropriate since I was using the page to create an artistic project.
I also liked the last paragraph on the page;
"Very well, Amy; if your heart is set upon it, and you see your way through without too great an outlay of money, time and temper, I'll say no more. Talk it over with the girls, and whichever way you decide, I'll do my best to help you."
"Thanks, mother; you are always so kind;" and away went Amy to lay her plan before her sisters.

I tore off a strip of blue Mulberry Paper and attached it to the book page with glue dots. (I found the paper at Big Lots.) I then used a piece of flocked patterned paper that looks like fuzzy piano keys across the blue paper. I used a small piece of silver/white patterned paper right under the chapter heading (I found both sheets of the patterned paper on clearance at Hobby Lobby). I applied an embossed reproduction of an image from an antique card on top of the piano keys. I found the package of antique art reproductions (Artifacts, Inc.) on clearance at Michaels.

I think this is a creative way to recycle old book pages and bring some joy into a special person's life. Who knows, this card might inspire someone to find a copy of "Little Women" and read the entire book.

Golden Oldies Friday ~ Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney

Welcome to Golden Oldies Friday! Each Friday I choose one book from my collection of vintage children's books to share with you.

Today, I chose a book that is one of my all-time favorite children's book. Miss Rumphius, by Barbara Cooney, is a beautiful story about living life to the fullest and leaving the world a better place when you leave. This is a picutre of my well-worn and well-loved copy of "Miss Rumphius".

About The Author
Barbara Cooney was born in 1917 and became a prolific children's book illustrator. In the later part of her career, Ms. Cooney focused on writing and illustrating more books of her own. Miss Rumphius, for which the author won both the American Book Award and a New York Times citation in 1982, was inspired by the true story of a woman who planted lupines to make the world a more beautiful place.

Texas Bluebonnets ~ A species of lupine
I discovered this book in the mid-1980s when I was an elementary school librarian in Pasadena, Texas. This book was in the biography section of the library because it is based on a true story.  I was attracted to this book because the Texas Bluebonnet is the state flower. Each spring I would read the children "Miss Rumphius" and we would talk about the beautiful blue flowers.
I also liked this book because Miss Rumphius just happened to work as a librarian and she loved books. This is truly the best "librarian story" that I have ever read.

The Lupine Lady
The story begins with a little girl telling the story of her great-aunt, Miss Alice Rumphius. Alice lived in a big house near the sea when she was a child. Alice would often sit on her grandfather's knee and listen to stories of faraway places. She also loved to watch him paint pictures of the sea. One day, her grandfather told her, "You must do something to make the world more beautiful". Alice agreed but she had no idea what she could do.
When she grew older, Miss Rumphius worked as a librarian in a large public library. She loved to read books about far-away places. She eventually traveled the world and experienced many different adventures.

On one of her adventures, she hurt her back while getting off of a camel. She decided it was time to go back home and take it easy. She found a little house near the sea that was almost perfect...but she remembered that she promised her grandfather to make the world more beautiful. She planted some lupines in her yard and the next spring her yard was full of beautiful blooming flowers.
All the next summer, Miss Rumphius ordered more lupine seeds and walked around spreading the seeds everywhere she went. The next spring there were lupines everywhere. She was known as the "Lupine Lady" and continued to spread seeds until she was very old.

The end of the book shows Miss Rumphius as a very old lady. She is sitting among her great-nieces and great-nephews. She is telling them that there is one thing that they MUST remember....Do somthing to make the world more beautiful.
