Handmade "Give Thanks" Thanksgiving Card

I wish everyone a very blessed and safe Thanksgving.

I made the following handmade Thanksgiving cards for the Hand to Heart Ministry in my Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas.

I used the "Amity" digital stamp from Mo's Digital Pencil to make these cards. The sentiments "Give Thanks" and "Happy Thanksgiving" come with this image. I used Prismacolor Premiere colored pencils with Gamsol solvent to color the images. I enjoyed experimenting with the background shading using the colored pencils and Gamsol. The top card has a darker background, the middle card has a lighter background and the bottom card does not have any colored background. Please click on the pictures for more detailed views.

I chose three different kinds of patterned paper from my stash for the background and mounted the paper/colored image on a blank kraft card that measured 5" by 6 1/2".

I embellished the cards by tying a piece of ribbon along the sides.

Handmade Thanksgiving Blessings Card

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and it is time to count our many blessings and give thanks.  This is a Thanksgiving card that I designed to send to a dear  lady friend as part of the Hand to Heart Greeting Card Ministry at my church.

I will enter this card in Mo's Challenge #241 - "Thank You".

Here is how I made the card;
I started with a blank 5" by 7" kraft cardstock card.
I found a piece of patterned paper with nice autumn colors in my stash for the background.
I chose the digital stamp "Pumpkins" from Mo's Digital Pencil. I printed the image on white cardstock and colored it with Copic Sketch markers. I used a Spellbinders Fleur-de-lis die to cut around the colored pumpkins.
I cut a piece of dark green cardstock with a scalloped Spellbinders die and layered it with a heart-shaped doily.
I cut a small round tag out of kraft cardstock with a Spellbinders die. I used a rubber stamp for the "Thanksgiving Blessings" sentiment. I attached the tag with a decorative green brad.

Thank you for taking a look at my card. Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Gratitude

Next week is Thanksgiving. It is a time when we will count our blessings and express gratitude to God for all that he has provided.
I made this card to send Thanksgiving greetings to a special person in my life.
I am entering this card in Mo's Challenge this week. The theme of the challenge is vellum and/or acetate. I machine stitched a piece of vellum with gold horizontal stripes to a piece of patterned paper with vertical stripes.
I used the Fall Kitten digital stamp from Mo's Digital Pencil Shop and colored it with Prismacolor pencils. I hand stamped the word "gratitude" on the side of the image.
I embellished the card with paper flowers and foil leaves.

Thanksgiving Week In The Hospital

Last week I became very ill and had to be admitted to the hospital. I had a serious gallbladder attack on Monday and had surgery the next day. During the surgery, I experienced a rare complication. The right side of my lung collapsed.

The week passed by in a blur. I have had some time to reflect on this unexpected experience. Here are some things that I have been thinking about;
  • Life really is very fragile. I was going along fine one day and the next day I was seriously ill. Good health is the most precious blessing that we have. Health really needs to be a top priority in my life.
  • I will strive to never take my family and friends for granted. Even though I was too sick to visit, I was so glad that friends and family members called me or came by for a visit. Many more were praying for my recovery. I was especially pleased that my husband and daughter took turns sleeping at the hospital so I would not have to be alone.
  • Everyday will be Thanksgiving Day. My husband and I ate Thanksgiving dinner in my hospital room. I ordered turkey and dressing from the hospital kitchen and he bought a turkey dinner from the cafeteria. When times are bad, I should not stop counting my blessings. An attitude of gratitude helps me keep things in the right perspective.
  • I will live life to the fullest. Life is good even when things around me are bad.

My life has been changed. I pray that I will have the strength and courage to make a difference in the world before it is time to leave.
