It has been several weeks since I have made a handmade card to enter in Mo's Digital Pencil Challenge. The theme for the challenge this week is "Black and White With One Contrasting Color". I took time this afternoon to make this card for a friend who is fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
I recently purchased the digital image "Bronte Kisses" from Mo's Digital Pencil Store. Maurie Manning is selling this image plus three dog quotations for $1.00. All proceeds from the sale of this image will be donated to The Pet Orphans of Southern California. This is a beautiful image and the quotes will touch your heart. This is a good opportunity to support a fine charity.
This is how I made the card; (1.) The base is a pre-made card with matching envelope that measures 4" by 5 1/2". The card is made from kraft cardstock. (2.) I used white and black Bazzill cardstock for the background. I used a Martha Stewart punch on the corners of the black cardstock. (3.) I colored the digital image "Bronte Kisses" with Prismacolor markers. I used the colors "Light Cerulean Blue" and "Brick White". (4.) I used a rub-on for the "Miss You" sentiment. I embellished the card with a piece of light blue yarn. I punched two cardstock butterflies with a Martha Stewart punch and covered them with Stickles glitter glue.

This is how I made the card; 1. I used a pre-made light green cardstock blank card that measures 4" X 5 1/2". 2. The background paper is from "Spring Blossom Seed Packet Cardstock Pack" by K & Company. 3. I used "Chickies" digital stamp from Mo's Digital Pencil Shop. 4. I colored the image with Prismacolor pencils and a blender pen. I sponged around the sides of the card with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in a light blue color (Tumbled Glass). I then inked the edges of the image with "Tea Dye" Distress Ink. 5. I mounted the image on a piece of dark blue textured cardstock. 6. I made the flowers by using a large Martha Stewart Crysanthemum Punch. I punched the flower out of Bazzill "Cool Cantaloupe" cardstock and matching gingham patterned paper. I embellished the flowers with feau pearls. 7. I put the card together with scrapbooking tape and glue dots.
I searched through my collection of rubber stamps for a sentiment to use on the inside of this card. I decided on "Take Time To Enjoy Life's Little Pleasures."
A digital stamp in crafting, stamping, card making and scrapbooking is a digital image printed onto paper from the user's printer. Digital stamps come in a variety of formats, including PNG, JPG, and TIFF. Digital stamps offer many advantages over traditional rubber stamps because of their ability to be flipped, resized, rotated and easily stored.
In addition, digital stamps can be printed on a variety of papers and cardstocks, and when properly heat sealed can be used with a variety of coloring mediums including colored pencil, copic markers, even watercolors.
I have been hooked on handmade card making for the past two years. My very favorite source of digital images is Mo's Digital Pencil Shop. Maurie J. Manning is a children's book illustrator who has built a very successful digital image business.
This is the step-by-step process that I use in making cards using a digital image;
I choose an image from my "digital stamps" folder on my computer. I have hundreds of images stored in this folder.
I use Microsoft Word or a picture editor program to size the image and print it on a piece of watercolor paper. This paper is thicker than cardstock and is better for coloring the image with colored pencils.
I color the image with Prismacolor pencils and a blender pen. The blender pen contains a solvent that melts the wax pencil lead so that you can blend the colors together.
I use scrapbooking tape and glue dots to mount the image to cardstock and patterned paper. There are many different layouts that you can use to put the card together.
I embellish the card with ribbon, bows, lace, buttons, etc.
I created this video last night using the Animoto online video service. These are cards that I have made using digital images from Mo's Digital Pencil Shop.
As I watch this video, I think about all my friends who have received these cards on their birthday, wedding anniversary, Valentine's Day, Christmas....or just because I was thinking about them. Card making is a wonderful hobby that allows you to spread joy to those around you. You can get started making handmade cards with supplies that you have around your house. This is a great way to send your love to family and friends.
