About The Authors
Jerry Pollock has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in pharmacy from the University of Toronto. He obtained his PhD in biophysics at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel in 1969, and then went on to New York University Medical Center for four years as a postdoctoral fellow and assistant professor of microbiology. Until July 2006, he was professor of oral biology and pathology at Stony Brook University. He is now professor emeritus at Stony Brook University.
Marcia Pollock is a graduate of Stony Brook University on Long Island with a major in psychology. She holds a masters degree in special education teaching from C.W. Post University. She retired from the Brentwood School District in July 2005. Marcia died from liver cancer on March 18, 2011.

Soul Mates Write A Book
This book is the direct outcome of an unusual and unique collaboration by soul mates Marcia and Jerry Pollock spanning the spiritual and physical worlds. Marcia is deceased, and her contributions come from the powerful intelligent energy of her Divine soul, which is without her physical body in the spirit world. Jerry is alive with his Divine soul, which is constrained within his physical body on planet Earth. Communicating through thought-energy telepathy or channeling, the authors have written this book in their attempt to bring new knowledge to the understanding of God's spirit and our world.

 
My Thoughts
I found this book of spiritual investigation and growth intriguing, fascinating and provocative. The collaboration between these soul mates is evidence that true love never dies. 
Marcia Pollock contributed knowledge of the spirit world and Jerry Pollock wrote about his knowledge of the physical world. The Pollocks used Albert Einstein's equations of relativity to explore and reflect the energy of our God-given souls.

I know very little about the theories of Albert Einstein. I did find the thoughts expressed in this book very interesting. Mr. and Mrs. Pollock used examples from research and their own experiences to illustrate and explain their beliefs.

This is one of my favorite passages from the book. It reminds us that spiritual growth takes time and effort;

In the course of life, humans seem to easily be able to darken their Divine souls. It is much easier to blacken your soul than it is to brighten it. Climbing the spiritual ladder takes time and energy. Living in the material world is impulsive.

This book might not be for everyone, but I recommend it for all who are serious about spiritual growth and development. This book will give you insight and guidance as you climb the spiritual ladder.

Kindle Books For Kids: Heaven Is For Real For Kids

Colton Burpo tells the story about how he got sick and went to Heaven when he was almost four-years-old. "Heaven is for Real for Kids; A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back", by Todd Burpo, is written in a child's words and is meant to be shared with other children. The color illustrations reflect the experience Colton had during his amazing trip to Heaven.


About The Author
Todd Burpo is the pastor of Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial, Nebraska where his sermons are broadcast locally every Sunday via the local radio station. He volunteers at Chase County Public Schools as wrestling coach for Junior High school students, as well as serving as a member of the school board. Todd graduated from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 1991 with a BA in Theology. He was ordained in 1994.

A Little Boy's Journey to Heaven
Colton Burpo was almost four-years-old when he became ill and was taken to the hospital. During his stay in the hospital, he closed his eyes and found himself being carried to Heaven by an angel.

Colton describes all the things he saw and all the things he experienced while in Heaven. The text is very simple and is written in a way that children can understand. Each page is illustrated with a beautiful color illustration that complements the text. There is also a Bible verse on each page that supports the experiences that Colton described while he was in Heaven.

My Thoughts
This book is a child's version of the best-selling adult book "Heaven is for Real; A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back." I have not read this original version of the book but plan to read it in the future.

I read this book on my Kindle 3 (black and white illustrations) and on the Kindle for PC Application (color illustrations). The illustrations and text are a good fit for the Kindle. Children will find this book easy and enjoyable to read on the small screen of the Kindle.

I think the child's version of "Heaven is for Real" is a book that is well-suited to share with children of all ages. This book will help parents explain what happens after a person dies. Colton remembers seeing all kinds of animals in heaven so this book would also be appropriate to answer questions about what happens to pets when they die.

Christian parents will find this book poignant and astounding. It is truly amazing that this young child could have an experience like this and be able to describe it in such vivid detail. There will always be skeptics, but I found Colton's story very believable and inspiring.

The theme of this book is "Jesus really, really loves children and Jesus really, really loves you." There is a FAQ section at the end of the book that provides more information about the Burpo family and Colton's experience. Highly recommended.

Book Review: The Reason - Help and Hope For Those Who Grieve

Sally Grablick tells the heart-wrenching story of her son's suicide in "The Reason; Help and Hope for Those Who Grieve". Ms. Grablick shares the feelings she experienced in the days, months and years following her son's death. This is a story of lessons learned, tools used and insights gained while navigating the way through grief to hope.

Each person must find their own path that leads from grief to acceptance. This book is a memoir of one mother's journey.



Experiencing A Tragedy
Ryan Wecker was 19-years-old when he shot himself...in his room, in his parent's home, with a rifle. Sally Grablick tells how she went from walking five miles, five days a weeks, to sitting on her deck smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. The experience of losing her son left Ms. Grablick paralyzed both physically and emotionally.

The author has done extensive research on the subject of overcoming grief and surviving the suicide of a close family member. She is very open and honest about her experiences. She wanted to know; "Where did he go, and is he alright?"
The author believes that one tool for dealing with grief is to cultivate an openness to the presence of their loved one's spirit. She has found closure and peace by recognizing signs that her son is near her and finding ways to communicate with him.

My Thoughts
This book is a very engaging and touching read. The author is very direct in describing the heartache and pain that comes with losing a child by suicide. Ms. Grablick makes it clear that the road to recovery is very long and very hard for the entire family.

I really liked the way the author shared the "tools" that she used to deal with this tragedy. She admitted that she took antidepressant medications, sought the help of an experienced therapist and depended on friends and family for emotional support. She also shared her experiences with getting readings from psychics and  fortunetellers.
I admire her determination to explore every available avenue to find closure. You might not agree with all of her methods, but you will rejoice with this mother as she finds acceptance and peace.

Book Review: Peace At The Edge Of Uncertainty

This is the story of one man's spiritual journey in the search for truth and peace. "Peace At The Edge Of Uncertainty" by Neil Hanson, is a memoir of a special time, place and experience in the author's life.
The author writes an open letter to his father who died fifteen years ago. This is a story of self-discovery, acceptance and spiritual growth. It is a story of how a family comes together to make decisions about  end-of-life care for their father. Finally, this is a story of the power of love and the awareness that love never ends.

About The Author
Neil Hanson grew up in eastern Kansas. He attended Kansas State University and studied architecture and psychology, graduating in 1976. He spent a year with an engineering firm after graduation before working as a carpenter, truck driver, concrete finisher, salesman, operations manager, computer programmer, and project manager. Today he writes, works with his son running their landscape design and construction company in Colorado, while continuing to work as a project manager in Corporate America.

The Journey Toward Death
The author uses the structure of a letter to tell his story of the final days of his father's life. Many thoughts enter his mind as he sits near his comatose father's hospital bed. The fact that his dad is dying forces him to accept the fact that we are all on a journey toward death. He feels the presence of God in the room as his father quietly leaves this world and enters the next. Mr. Hanson believes this experience helped him come into a deeper awareness of his father's influence in his life. He feels his father's presence more now than ever before.

A Family Coming Together
Mr. Hanson and his siblings were forced to make some difficult end-of-life decisions. They decided to reject feeding tubes, respirators and anything that would prolong their father's life by artificial means. They often sat in silence at their father's side because they could not find words to express their emotions. Each person deals with grief and loss in their own personal way. 

"My heart wailed over my failure to express to you the most important things in life, things I had not expressed as I ought to have. While my mind understood very clearly the decisions that you would want me to make on your behalf, the wailing of my heart kept drowning the clarity of this understanding, turning easy and clear decisions into painful wrestling matches within."

This book is about a spiritual journey but has nothing to do with organized religion. The author deals with questions about life, death and the after-life. I found that I could deeply relate to the thoughts and feelings that Mr. Hanson expresses in this book. My father died less than one year ago and I felt many of the same emotions that are expressed in this book. I feel a definite kinship with Mr. Hanson and his family. He opened his heart and expressed things that most people could never put into words.

There might be some who are not willing to delve into the highly personal thoughts of transition and transcendence. If so, this book is not for you. However, if your heart is open and willing to explore new spiritual places, this book will touch your heart in a very special way.

Book Review: Surprised By Suffering

I read the Kindle edition of Surprised by Suffering: The Role of Pain and Death in The Christian Life by R.C. Sproul.  Pastor Sproul is an American Calvinist theologian and pastor. He is the founder and chairman of Ligonier Ministries and can be heard daily on the Renewing Your Mind radio broadcast in the United States and internationally.  He has written 60 books on Christian living. This book was first published in 1988.  This edition features a new chapter on God's sovereignty in relation to suffering (Chapter 4), as well as  new Scripture and subject indexes.

I think all people are surprised when faced with suffering and death.  We are never prepared to handle these unpleasant circumstances in life.  The author examines and discusses the following questions;

Why do good people suffer with sickness and disease?
Is there a heaven where we will live after death?
Will we see our loved ones again?

Pastor Sproul leads the reader in a detailed Bible study on these topics.  He examines both Old Testament and New Testament Scpritures to find the answers to these questions.  He uses the Scriptures to provide comfort to Christians who have lost loved ones.  He also shares his views on how to deal with family members who are terminally ill.
I was drawn to this book because my father recently had a heart attack.  He is very ill and I am having a hard time dealing with this.  Surprised by Suffering: The Role of Pain and Death in The Christian Life was like a gift straight from God.  Pastor Sproul helped me understand the process of death and grief. 
The index at the back of the book is a very helpful reference tool.  This book is well worth the time it will take you to read it. 

Stardust Dads - A Book Review

Stardust Dads: The Afterlife Connection, a novel by David and Josephine George, is a mystical adventure that gives the term "soul mates" new meaning. This is a love story in more ways than one.

Mickey Parks and Lloyd Wallace meet at a place called Midway Manor after their untimely deaths. Mickey loves to strum his guitar and Lloyd enjoys playing the piano. They soon make beautiful music together and become good friends. Their favorite song to play is "Stardust".

Mickey has a daughter named Allison and Lloyd has a son named Danny. The dads start talking about the young adult children they left behind. They come up with an idea to use the computers in the Data Room at Midway Manor to monitor and manipulate the lives of their children. Mickey and Lloyd are successful in arranging for Danny and Allison to meet - it was love at first sight, of course. Danny and Allison's relationship is truly a match made in heaven.

Mickey and Lloyd also have a plan to send their children some valuable knowledge that would make them very rich if they published it in a book. Danny and Allison buy a brand new computer and soon receive a very strange email message. Sure enough, Mickey and Lloyd are able to communicate with their children and tell them all about Midway Manor.

Danny and Allison use the email messages to write a novel about Midway Manor. This book becomes very popular because it seems to provide proof of life after death. Unfortunately, a mentally impaired religious fanatic is offended by the book and decides to kill Danny and Allison.

No, the story does not have a tragic ending but you will have to read the details for yourself.

It took me several weeks to read this book because of illness and family activities. I kept coming back to this book because it was like one of those songs that you just can't get out of your head. This is a good fiction story that promotes the theme that life and love are eternal.
